Painters Work Hanna Pauli (1864-1940): Breakfast-Time, 1887, oil on canvas, 87 x 91 cm, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, Sweden
Like many Swedish artists on the time, Hanna Hirsch-Pauli studied in Paris and exhibited on the Salon.
Her ‘Breakfast-Time’ is a dazzlingly virtuoso portray, exhibiting a maid getting ready a breakfast desk in a backyard.
The desk which is laid with stunning objects offers associations to household life and domesticity. The picture reveals a nook of actuality, the place the bourgeois eating room has been eliminated to the backyard.
It strikes an exquisite steadiness between the painterliness of the bottom and wood furnishings, and enough element to deliver the silverware, porcelain and glass to life. Getting these reflective surfaces and their textures to work good is technically extremely demanding. Hirsch’s nice accomplishment was doing so while not getting too tight of their element.
