Set in a seedy, downmarket playing den, Buland’s ‘Le Tripot’ is a gaggle portrait of 5 hardened gamblers at their desk. Every is wealthy in character, and makes you marvel how they got here to be there. An outdated girl on the left, for instance, seems utterly misplaced, however is resolutely staking her cash. Wanting over her shoulder is a person, whose face is partially obscured. Is he, maybe, a son, or a debtor?
A younger spiv on the far proper is right down to his final couple of silver cash, and appears about to lose them too. The air is thick with smoke, the partitions in want of redecoration, and a pair of younger streetwalkers prowl behind them, in search of a winner who will spend a few of their money on them.
