The Backyard of Earthly Delights is the fashionable title given to a triptych painted by the Early Netherlandish grasp Hieronymus Bosch. It has been housed within the Museo del Prado in Madrid since 1939. Relationship from between 1490 and 1510, when Bosch was between about 40 and 60 years outdated, it’s his best-known and most bold full work.

The triptych is painted in oil on oak and is fashioned from a sq. center panel flanked by two different oak rectangular wings that shut over the middle as shutters. The outer wings, when folded, present a grisaille portray of the earth through the biblical narrative of Creation. The three scenes of the inside triptych are most likely (however not essentially) supposed to be learn chronologically from left to proper. The left panel depicts God presenting Eve to Adam, the central panel is a broad panorama of socially engaged nude figures, fantastical animals, outsized fruit and hybrid stone formations. The precise panel is a hellscape and portrays the torments of damnation.
