Painters Work Ivan Kramskoi (1837 – 1887): Moonlit Night time, 1880, oil on canvas, 178,eight x 135,2 cm, Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow .
.
‘Moonlit Night time’ by Kramskoi depicts a quiet nook of a park, illumined by the sunshine of a full moon. On the bench below an enormous poplar tree by a pond coated by water lily leaves and flowers, sits a younger lady.
Her head is barely tilted, she seems pensive. Lady’s posture together with her hand resting on the backrest of the bench emanates peace and serenity. This sense is emphasised by the sleek, virtually fluid traces of the lengthy white gown and the cape scarf.
